Grade the web on data ethics. Then choose Europe.

Sovereignty Checker scores every site from A to F on trackers, cookies and where your data flows — and when you land on a US tool, it shows GDPR-friendly European alternatives. All of it runs locally in your browser.

No account. No tracking. Nothing leaves your device.

The score

Like Lighthouse, but for data ethics

Every page is checked against five signals, each weighted. The letter grade lands on your toolbar; the full breakdown is one click away.

30
Trackers
Third-party trackers and ad-tech loaded on the page.
25
Data flow
How many US-owned destinations receive the data.
20
Cookies
Cookies set, and whether a consent tool is present.
15
Privacy policy
Is there a policy, and does it mention GDPR.
10
Infrastructure
Signals of EU versus US hosting behind the site.
The way out

On a US tool? Here's the European one.

The moment you open a tracked service, Sovereignty Checker surfaces vetted alternatives — with a strong German and EU focus, open-source options flagged.

The audit stays on your machine

A privacy tool that phoned home would be a contradiction. So this one doesn't.

Everything runs locally

Trackers, cookies and policy checks are computed in your browser from what the page already loads. No page content is ever sent anywhere.

No accounts, no ads

No sign-up, no analytics, no third-party SDKs, no advertising. It never identifies you and there's nothing to log in to.

One optional request

The only network call it can make is a tool-list refresh — off by default, to a URL you choose. That's it.

Why it matters: under the US CLOUD Act, data held by US providers can be compelled regardless of where the servers sit — which is exactly what the Schrems rulings put in question for European data. Sovereignty Checker makes that exposure visible, then points to a European option.

Questions

Good to know

Is it really free?

Yes. It's free, independent, and contains no ads or upsells. If you'd like to support it, star the repository or share it with your team.

Do you collect any of my data?

No. The scoring happens entirely in your browser and no browsing data is transmitted. Your settings are stored locally on your device. The only outbound request the extension can make is an optional tool-list update to a URL you set. See the full privacy policy.

How accurate is the hosting detection?

Trackers, cookies and privacy-policy detection are read directly and reliably. Data flow and infrastructure are heuristics based on the domains a page loads — Google, Meta and AWS versus Hetzner, OVH and STACKIT. They indicate likely US versus EU involvement, not a definitive hosting audit, and the score is a fast signal rather than legal advice.

Which browsers are supported?

Any Chromium browser — Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Arc. A Firefox build is straightforward from the same code; see the project README.

Can I add or correct a tool?

Absolutely. The database is a single file, and the extension can auto-update from a hosted list, so new tools and fixes reach users without a reinstall. Contributions are welcome.
